History of Stevens Fire Company

     On July 30, 1914, a group of men met at the Stevens Post Office to organize a Fire Company. M. E. Shirk was temporary chairman at this meeting.  The above officers were elected.

     The Fire Company met on August 6, 1914 and passed a motion to have said Fire Company chartered as Stevens Fire Company No. 1.  They also appointed a committee to locate a place for a Fire Hall.  Hall Committee John Reinhold, Geo. Showalter, Augustus Scheetz, Evan Gockley, and Horance Enck.

     On August 13, 1914, the Constitution and By-Laws were adopted.

     On August 27, 1914, a lot was purchased from H. Z. Enck for $195.00. The Engine Committee also reported that they purchased a Howe Fire Engine for $650.00.

     At the meeting of the Fire Company on September 3, 1914, the following Trustees were elected: H. D. Stick for 3 years, Evan Gockley for 2 years, and Levi Steely for 1 year.  President Elam Kline appointed a fire Hall Building Committee as follows: J. Frank Lutz, M. E. Shirk, L. B. Showalter, and Elam Kline.

     At the September 28, 1914, meeting, a committee was appointed to make application for a Charter.  The Charter Committee was George S. Ludwig, R. M. Hertzog, and H. L. Steely.

     At the October 3, 1914, meeting, the contract to build the Fire Hall was given to S. L. Snyder of Denver.

     The Stevens Fire Company organized an orchestra on October 29, 1914.

     The Charter was signed on December 31, 1914.

     On October 2, 1924, the Fire Company voted to buy a motor-driven Fire Truck.  This truck was contracted from the Hale Fire Pump Company on December 18, 1924, at a cost of $6,060.76.

     In November of 1943 the Fire Company bought its present Firemen's Field from the Joseph Buch Estate for a price of $3,200.00.  The Company has made improvements on this field since 1943.

     In October of 1950 the Fire Company bought a Chevrolet Truck with Peter Pirch Fire Equipment.  This truck was delivered in 1951 and in October of 1951 it was officially housed.
